Design Expo Set for December 10
ME is gearing up for it's Fall Design Expo, a semi-annual display of student design projects dealing with the engineering community's most cutting-edge technologies. The event is set for Wednesday, December 10, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Media Union Library Atrium.
This showcase of independent, industry-sponsored senior design projects features fully functional prototypes, as well as an exhibition of junior level design abilities. It is an opportunity for the department to publicly display the professional abilities and creativity of the future engineering workforce.
This semester, some of the expo highlights will include:
* A precision tool to implant microscopic electrodes into the brains of mice as part of research into potential cures for Parkinsons disease and Epilepsy
* The complete design of the intake and exhaust system for an open-wheeled race car sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers
* An improved and inexpensive prosthetic hand which is designed to mimic an actual hand, rather than the currently available claw-like prosthesis
* A cell phone attachment designed to quickly charge a given cell phone during an emergency situation
This event is free and open to the public.
