R&D Magazine's prestigious R&D 100 Awards dubbed the "Oscars of Invention" recognize the 100 most technologically significant new products, processes, materials, or software developed throughout the world and introduced to the market the previous year. These advances leapfrog current technology by providing simple and elegant solutions to complex or long-standing technical problems. Awards are based on each achievement's significance, uniqueness, and usefulness compared to competing technologies. The winning of an R&D 100 Award provides a mark of excellence known to industry, government, and academia as proof that the product is one of the most innovative ideas of the year.

XY HiPER-NaP: High Precision Extended Range Nano Positioner (Awtar's entry) - The XY HiPER-NaP is the largest range XY nanometric precision positioning system currently available commercially or in research labs. Applications of this nanopositioning system include large-range Scanning Probe Microscopy, nanolithography, hard-drive testing, meso-scale machining, and bio-imaging.
