Welcome Assistant Professor Jianping Fu
Jianping Fu has joined the Mechanical Engineering department as an assistant professor.
Fu earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Science & Technology of China and a master's degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. After earning his PhD in mechanical engineering, with a major in biological engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Fu received a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association and conducted his postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania.
Fu initially will teach an undergraduate course in fluid mechanics. He intends to build upon his biological engineering experience and continue conducting research into micro/nanofluidics and bioMEMS/NEMS, ultra-sensitive single molecule biosensors, micro/nanosystems for engineering synthetic ex vivo stem cell microenvironments, and mechanobiology and stem cell differentiation.
Fu says it is U-M's highly regarded and top-ranked Mechanical Engineering department that attracted him to his current position. "The Department has a very diverse research portfolio with faculty members working on many different fronts," he said.
Additionally, he was drawn to the core facilities available, such as the Lurie Nanofabrication Facility. "The cleanroom microfabrication facility and the top-ranked Medical School will provide great opportunities for me to establish my research program."
