ME faculty spin-out company takes 2nd in statewide award

skerlosBorn eight years ago in the ME laboratory of Professor Skerlos, the innovative and green technology of Fusion Coolant Systems has earned $150k and second place in the recent Accelerate Michigan Innovation competition, a statewide business plan contest.

Fusion Coolant Systems is marketing a safer and greener coolant and lubrication system for use in manufacturing. The technology, marketed as CHiP (Composite High-Pressure Lubrication), works to increase manufacturing productivity and reduce waste by converting CO2 emissions from industrial processes into a lubricant and coolant for metal cutting and forming.

Fusion Coolant Systems WinsThe Accelerate Michigan competition is the brainchild of the newly formed Business Accelerator Network for Southeast Michigan and the New Economy Initiative. According to the program, the competition is “an international business plan competition designed to highlight Michigan as a robust and vibrant venue for innovation and business opportunity.” It is part of an effort to strengthen Michigan’s entrepreneurial presence, spotlighting innovative new businesses both locally, like Fusion Coolant Systems, and globally that show promise for a better future in all sectors of the economy.
