ME Student Jinjin Ma wins two prestigious awards for papers

Jinjin Ma CoverMechanical Engineering graduate student Jinjin Ma has recently garnered two prestigious awards for papers she has written.

Ma recently was awarded the cover photo for an image from her paper, “Three-Dimensional Engineered Bone–Ligament–Bone Constructs for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Replacement,” published in the January 2012 issue of Tissue Engineering. Along with Ma, co-authors and fellow awardees include Michael J. Smietana, Tatiana Y. Kostrominova, Edward M. Wojtys, Lisa M. Larkin, and Ellen M. Arruda.

Ma has another paper that was recently awarded the 2012 Excellence in Research Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). The paper, “A Comparison of Tissue Engineered Scaffold-less Bone-Ligament-Bone Constructs and Patellar Tendon Autografts Used for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Replacement in Sheep,” examines a possible alternative to a graft for replacing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Co-authors and fellow awardees of the paper are as follows: Michael J. Smietana, MS; Ilea T. Swinehart, BS; Tatiana Y. Kostrominova, PhD; Deneen M. Wellik, PhD; Edward M. Wojtys, MD; Lisa M. Larkin, PhD; Ellen M. Arruda, PhD.

This award involves a $2000 honorarium, an award plaque and presentation of her paper at the AOSSM Annual Meeting in Maryland, as well as possible publication of the manuscript in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Ma's advisors are ME Professor Ellen Arruda and BME Associate Professor Lisa Larkin.
