Gavini selected as awardee for AFOSR YIP
Assistant Professor Vikram Gavini has been selected as an awardee in the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Young Investigator Research Program (YIP). This year, AFSOR awarded approximately $15 million in grants to 40 winning proposals through the program.
The YIP is open to scientists and engineers at research institutions across the United States who received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last five years and show exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. The objective of this program is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering, enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators, and increase opportunities for the young investigators to recognize the Air Force mission and the related challenges in science and engineering.
Gavini's proposal is entitled "Quasi-continuum reduction of field theories: A route to seamlessly bridge quantum and atomistic length-scales with continuum." Gavini is the leader of the Computational Material Physics Group, which aims to develop computational and mathematical techniques to address various aspects of materials behavior, which exhibit complexity and structure on varying length and time scales.
