Call for Abstracts: The Fifth KAIST-UM Joint Workshop on New Opportunities in Mechanical Engineering Education

Objectives

The Fifth KAIST-UM Joint Workshop offers an opportunity to exchange ideas on many emerging challenges and prospects in mechanical engineering education in an environment of rapidly changing global industry. The two-day workshop will consist of presentations by faculty of KAIST and UM, followed by discussion, with the focus on educational aspects of mechanical engineering, including:

* Young engineers ("2020") and their future career opportunities
* Effective industry-university collaborations on traditional and emerging technologies
* Educating engineers for the global market
* Technology drivers for engineering curricula

It is anticipated that the outcome of the workshop will be summarized and presented/published in a relevant engineering conferences/journals.

Location and Time of the Workshop

The workshop will be held in Hawaii on December 14-15, 2006. Further details on the travel information will be announced in due course.

Financial Sponsorship

The workshop is sponsored by the International Collaboration Program between KAIST and UM,and also by the BK-21 Program of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources of Korea. Travel expenses for the participants will be reimbursed by the programs up to $1200.

September 29, 2006: Abstracts (200 words) due
October 16, 2006: Final program announcement
November 20, 2006: Submission of the full manuscript/presentation file
December 14-15, 2006: Workshop
